Chief Operating Officer

The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to colorectal cancer.
Together with a nation of passionate allies, we advocate for prevention, magnify support, and
accelerate research to end this disease. Inequities in colorectal cancer screening, diagnosis, and
treatment among the most vulnerable communities continue to persist. Our programs are
designed to put health equity first. We are working towards the ambitious vision of ending
colorectal cancer in our lifetime. We plan to achieve this vision by:

  • investing and influencing $500 million in research while helping to drive the annual
    overall nationwide investment for colorectal research to $600 million annually by 2028.
  • building and serving the world’s largest community and data set of colorectal patients to
    raise the five year survival of mCRC from 13% to 35%.
  • leveraging screening and prevention efforts to raise the screening rate to 80% and save
    100,000 lives.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (CCA) will set the vision for
and oversee CCA’s operations strategy. This includes overseeing operations, technology,
finance and accounting functions. The COO will report into and work closely with the CEO to
create and implement plans across all functions. The COO will directly manage a team of at
least 2 people.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Executive leadership team (40%):

  • Collaborate with the CEO and Head of Mission Delivery in setting and driving
    organizational vision, and operations strategy.
  • Support the Executive Team and the Board of Directors in continuing to build out
    future growth infrastructure, strategy, financial plans, and approaches to
    technology and data management.
  • Lead processes to foster greatness in our culture and non-profit expertise.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with leadership and team, Board of
    Directors, partners, and stakeholders.

Operations Management (30%)

  • Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide
    goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning.
  • Manage the current team of 2 direct reports and 5 total team members.
    Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building a highly
    inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational
    goals are met.
    ○ Monitor performance with tracking software and take corrective measures when
    necessary. Prepare detailed updates and forecasts.
    ○ Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations, and take
    appropriate action when necessary.

Finance Management (30%)

  • Budget: Oversee and support the annual budget setting process. Build and track
    financial scenarios to support strategic decision making.
  • Accounting and control: Manage CCA’s banking relationships, monitor banking
    activities and manage investments to ensure safety of funds and returns in
    accordance with CCA’s investment policy. Ensure adequate cash flow to meet
    CCA’s needs. Serve as a fiduciary and oversee the administration and financial
    reporting of 401K retirement plan.
  • Manage capital investments and expenses aggressively to ensure that the
    organization achieves investor targets for growth and profitability.

REQUIREMENTS:

The COO will be an experienced leader with at least 10 years of broad operations management
experience including experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making
actionable recommendations to senior leadership. The COO will have experience managing the
operations, technology, and finance functions (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting)
within a diverse and dynamic entity. The COO must be energized by growth and show a
willingness to try creative approaches to solve problems.

The COO will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Five or more years of experience in executive leadership roles specializing in operations
    and finance.
  • A minimum of a BA or BS; MBA preferred.
  • Experience leading or supporting technology strategy for a company or organization.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships with direct reports, colleagues, leadership,
    and key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational
    model.
  • Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues.
  • An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written
    skills and a willingness to share information.
  • Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics.
  • Ability to diagnose problems quickly, foresee potential issues, and adapt as necessary.
  • A collaborative and flexible style with a strong service mentality.
  • Demonstrable passion for Colorectal Cancer Alliance’s mission.

COMPENSATION

The Colorectal Cancer Alliance offers a minimum salary of $225,000 for this role. The exact
salary and bonus potential will be based on experience aligned to the role and responsibilities.
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance also provides comprehensive benefits to best support its people.
These benefits include domestic partner benefits, a 401K employee match program, employee
colonoscopy coverage, and a generous PTO and sick leave policy.
