We are proud to share the good news with our community and supporters: we have been honored with Charity Navigator’s coveted 4-star Charity Navigator rating for the fourth consecutive year!
Charity Navigator is the nation’s largest and most highly trusted evaluator of charities. The organization’s rating system looks at two broad areas of a charity’s performance: their financial health and their accountability and transparency. Charity Navigator reviews charities’ financial documents and considers how they expect a charity to use donors’ support today, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time, and their level of commitment to good governance, best practices and openness with information.
So, why is this so important to us? Put simply, it’s because we’ve been working hard to ensure that your trust in us remains secure, and most importantly, that we are held accountable to the highest standard. Only 7% of all evaluated charities receive this accolade – a rare feat in these tough economic times. We thank our Board of Directors, Medical Scientific Advisory Committee and staff for their leadership and vision in making this possible. We also couldn’t do this without our survivors, caregivers, volunteers and supporters that bring our mission to life, so thank YOU.
With this honor from Charity Navigator and as we celebrate our 15th anniversary this year, we are proud to share what we have accomplished together over the years, from increased screening rates to the approval of several new colon cancer fighting drugs and millions invested in lifesaving and supportive programs. In fact, in 2013 alone we brought support to nearly one million patients, caregivers, survivors, family members and advocates across the country. With the help of 19 major partners, we invested $3.9 million in helping individuals and local communities through our prevention, research and patient support programs. Looking at what we’ve accomplished in the past 15 years, we can’t wait to see how our community changes the face of colon cancer in coming years. Together, we will knock colon cancer out of the top three cancer killers.
Don’t forget, the Colon Cancer Alliance serves as a source of information about colon health. If you have questions or are in need of support, please contact our free Helpline at (877) 422-2030. We’re here to help!
