This month we are excited to announce that our Blue Hope Partnership Program (BHPP) Partner of the Month is the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia! The Abramson Cancer Center got its start in 1973, and has continued to lead the way over the last four decades. Since its conception, the Abramson Cancer Center has continuously been awarded the prestigious designation of Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute.
The Abramson Cancer Center has been providing access to colon cancer screening as well as distributing educational materials to the Philadelphia community through the West Philadelphia GI Outreach and Access Program since 2011. This program provides access to information and screening methods for patients at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
The Abramson Cancer Center has been one of our partners since 2012. As one of our signature programs, the Blue Hope Partnership Program grants funds to organizations that are taking steps and making strides towards knocking colon cancer out of the top three cancer killers. Since then, the Abramson Center has been amazing with utilizing the funds from the BHPP and has helped their local cancer community in so many ways.
The majority of the grant given to the Abramson Cancer Center has been used to provide free colonoscopy prep materials and the postage required to send these materials to patients' homes. The grant also supplies SEPTA tokens to ensure patients have better access to the medical center for screening procedures. In turn, the center has done a fantastic job with engaging the community with our annual Philly Undy Run.
We look forward to the years ahead of our partnership with the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, and hope that our collaboration will continue to impact the lives of those in the Philadelphia area!
