Joan McCarty, team captain of Andy’s Army, is participating in this year’s DC Scope It Out 5K in honor of her late husband Andy Eury. Andy passed away in 2014 after being diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in 2010. He is remembered by his loved ones for his fighting spirit, which is how his brother thought of their team name.

Joan set a lofty fundraising goal of $5,000 for Andy’s Army and, so far, the team has raised 70 percent of that goal! Andy left a lasting legacy among his family and friends—many of whom have pitched in to join the team or donate in his memory.

Everyone in Andy's Army has been doing their part to fundraise. Andy’s niece Colby even held a bake sale at her school! Not only did she bake several different goodies herself, she also raised over $200 for the team.

Congratulations to Andy's Army for being our DC Scope It Out Team of the Week!
