Get ready for some exciting news: we’ve been nominated to win $75,000 in the DSW Shoe Lovers Care Leave Your Mark program! “Who nominated us,” you ask? Meet DSW Associate Amanda Friedhoff and find out why she thinks we should win the donation that’ll help us knock out colon cancer—and why she thinks you should vote for us!

What motivated you to nominate the Colon Cancer Alliance for the DSW Shoe Lovers Care program?

My mom was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer on May 20, 2013 and, unfortunately, she passed away from the horrible disease just two months later on July 21, 2013!  Her cancer was so aggressive; we never even had a chance to fight it.

Why do think people should vote for the Colon Cancer Alliance?

People should vote for the Colon Cancer Alliance because $75,000 could help fund research that would eradicate this disease. It may sound funny, but the truth is everyone has a colon or knows someone with a colon, so this could impact us all.

What would you like others to know about colon cancer?

I would like everyone to know that colon cancer is preventable through screening and treatment can be more effective when it’s found early. A colonoscopy is no longer the only way to get screened. Colonoscopies have gotten a bad rap and people don't like to talk about getting screened, but it's not as bad as you think—especially when it could save your life!

We have to ask! What's your favorite pair of shoes and why?

You may have seen my favorite pair of shoes in the first Sex and the City movie: the blue satin Manolo Blahnik pumps Carrie has in the closet at the end. I could never afford the real things, but I did find exact replicas for much cheaper and plan on wearing them to my wedding reception later this year!

Don’t forget to vote for us—we need your help! Vote daily now through June 16 on ShoeLoversCare.com to help us knock out colon cancer.

Don’t forget, the Colon Cancer Alliance serves as a source of information about colon health. If you have additional questions about colon cancer screening or are in need of support, please contact our free Helpline at (877) 422-2030. We’re here to help.
