We’ve been hard at work championing colon cancer awareness, patient support and prevention, but we aren’t the only ones—members of our community have been working hard, too! In the last year, we’ve received an amazing response from fundraising supporters from all walks who feel just as passionately about knocking out this disease as we do.
Here are some recent fundraisers!
Shopping with a Cause at Talbots
A chance encounter in the cashier’s line at Talbots sparked a conversation that would turn into much more. When an employee at Talbots asked Noelle Sneider of Exact Sciences about her Blue Star pin, they struck up a conversation about creating a partnership between the successful clothing store and the Colon Cancer Alliance. Dorcas Lee, the Assistant Manager at Talbots Wellesley, knew one of her employees had just had a routine colonoscopy where the doctor found and removed a polyp that may have become cancerous. Armed with a mutual desire to promote screening and other prevention efforts, Talbots hosted an informational fundraiser on May 28 and generously donated 10 percent of its sales to us here at the Colon Cancer Alliance! Our rockstar volunteer and survivor Cheryl Daniele represented us in a beautiful outfit that Talbots donated. Big thanks to Noelle, Cheryl, Dorcas and everyone at Talbots for making this event possible!
Fiona McKenna - Princeton’s Athletic and Fundraising Superstar
Fiona is a true athlete and competitor with a large, impressive resume. When she learned her close friend’s father passed away from colon cancer, she rallied her ice hockey teammates to come together for a hugely successful event that raised more than $6,000 to support our mission.
Fiona and her teammates raised money during the women’s match against the Rochester Institute of Technology and the men’s match against Colgate University on November 8. They coupled a day of intensity on the ice with a bake sale and hockey-themed activities during halftime, including an exciting “Chuck-a-Puck” contest. Thank you to Fiona, the Princeton Ice Hockey Program and their supporters for your compassion and effort towards supporting our mission!
Cruising Against Cancer at the Northeast Digestive Health Center
The Northeast Digestive Health Center in Concord, North Carolina recently held their fourth annual “Highway to Health” car and motorcycle show. Taking place each March during National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, this event has become a staple among car and bike enthusiasts and cancer warriors in the Concord community, growing in numbers and donations each year. Sponsors and participants enjoyed great food, dancing and all of the fancy cars and bikes as they came together to raise money through raffle prizes, motorcycle rides and a silent auction. Over the last four years, “Highway to Health” has raised more than $35,000! We’re proud to partner with an organization that works so hard to end colon cancer and can’t thank them enough for their annual support.
