Vehicles for Charity

Wondering what to do with your used car or truck? Have an old boat or RV you’re no longer using? Donating your vehicle to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance is convenient, easy and may qualify you for a tax deduction. Best of all, your vehicle donation will make a difference in supporting the fight against colorectal cancer.

Vehicles for Charity, the Alliance’s partner, will arrange your vehicle pick up with absolutely no charge to you. Your vehicle will be auctioned off and 70% of the sale price of the vehicle will be donated to the Alliance (minus any applicable towing fees).

Simply use our car donation form—or call 1-866-628-2277—to start the donation process and schedule your pick-up today. It’s time to drive away colorectal cancer.

Tax benefits

Wondering if your vehicle may be tax-deductible? Well, the short answer is yes! However, it’s important to note that since individual tax situations can vary, we recommend talking to your professional tax advisor and referring to IRS Publication 4303 for specific questions and information.

When you donate your vehicle, a donation acknowledgement and thank you letter will be mailed to you within 30 days following the sale of your vehicle, per IRS requirements (upon receipt of a negotiable title). Keep this as proof of your donation.

Recommended Resources:

  • How does the vehicle donation work?
    • You first start out by filling in the online form or calling Vehicles for Charity. When this information is complete, it is forwarded to a towing company who will call you directly to schedule a pick up date and time.
    • At the time of pick up, the driver will give you a receipt for the vehicle and you will give the driver the keys and the appropriate signed title.
    • It is important that you contact your state Department of Motor Vehicles in order to find out how to properly notify them that you have sold the vehicle and transfer liability.
    • A donation acknowledgement and thank you letter will be mailed to you within 30 days following the sale of your vehicle, per IRS requirements (upon receipt of a negotiable title).
  • What kinds of vehicles can be donated?

Vehicles for Charity accepts automobiles, trucks, vans, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, dirt bikes, tractors, boats and trailers.

  • What condition and types of vehicles do you accept?

Whether new or old, running or not running, all vehicles used for general transportation purposes, boats, RVs and campers, and specialty vehicles are accepted.

  • As a donor, what do I need before I can donate?
    • Three things are needed before donating your vehicle:
      • When filling out the online form or calling, please have the title and current mileage on hand.
      • The keys to the vehicle.
      • A clear title, which means a title with your name listed in the owner’s section, without an assignment or transfer to another person. All liens must be released prior to donating the vehicle.
  • How long will I have to wait before my vehicle is picked up?

Typically, your vehicle will be picked up in two to four business days. The towing company will contact you in advance to schedule the pick up.

  • What happens after my vehicle is picked up?
    • Once your vehicle is picked up, it will be sent to auction and sold to the highest bidder.
    • It is important to note that while all vehicle conditions are accepted, some are not accurately represented and will not sell at auction. Those vehicles are delivered to an auto recycle or salvage company, either of which pays a set amount for vehicles regardless of condition.
    • Once sold, 70% of the selling price (minus any applicable towing fees) will be donated to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and the remainder will go to Vehicles for Charity.
  • Who is Vehicles for Charity?

Vehicles for Charity is the Colorectal Cancer Alliance’s vehicle donation partner. Vehicles for Charity is owned and operated by arc Thrift Stores, a 501(c)(3) organization.

  • What if I have more questions?
