Virtual Writing & Engagement Intern

To help realize our mission, the Alliance is seeking a Virtual Writing and Engagement Intern to assist with the Alliance’s writing and content efforts.  If interested, this intern may also participate in social media engagement activities.

The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is a national organization committed to ending colorectal cancer within our lifetime. We help patients and families, survivors and caregivers, navigate their diagnosis and treatment, connecting them with those who can share experiences and knowledge, address concerns, and identify resources to meet their needs. We partner with healthcare professionals and social influencers to raise awareness of preventative screening, and we collaborate with researchers to better understand the disease and fund critical research. Our efforts are urgent, effective and efficient because we believe that tomorrow can’t wait.

Position Purpose

The Writing & Engagement Intern will connect with our community to tell stories that resonate and inspire across the Alliance’s content platforms. Working with the senior manager of strategic communications, the intern will be assigned writing projects based on his or her interests and availability.

Specific tasks:

  • Contact and interview story subjects

  • Write and edit story content

  • Coordinate with subject to ensure accuracy of content

  • Coordinate with subject to acquire photographs

  • Write suggested social media posts around content

Potential social media tasks:

  • Monitor social media for story and content leads

  • Assist with Facebook Fundraiser engagement

  • Assist the department with additional projects

Qualifications

  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Availability to work a minimum of 5 hours a week

  • Current student or recent graduate with an interest in marketing, journalism, english, literature and/or media

  • Previous internships in writing or social media engagement a plus

Washington, DC or Remote

Position Type

Unpaid internship, part-time, minimum 5 hours per week, nonexempt

We can however help you obtain college credit if so desired. Our unpaid internships comply with the US Department of Labor's Wage & Hour Division's Fact Sheet #71: Internship Programs Under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
