Freelance Patient Content Writer
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is seeking a freelance writer with health or clinical knowledge to edit and develop content for our web-based patient platform. The goal is to create a full resource library and personalized curated resources for colorectal cancer patients and caregivers to help them on their cancer journey. The position is for contractual work through October 2022 at approximately 20 hours a week. Hourly rate is negotiable based on experience level.
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is a national nonprofit organization committed to ending colorectal cancer within our lifetime. We help patients, families, survivors, and caregivers navigate diagnosis and treatment options, connect them with those who can share experiences and knowledge, and identify resources to meet their needs. We partner with healthcare professionals and social influencers to raise awareness of preventative screening, and we collaborate with researchers to better understand the disease and fund critical research. Our efforts are urgent, effective, and efficient because we believe that tomorrow can’t wait.
- Perform basic research on assigned topics and synthesize articles that provide value to the patient or caregiver.
- Conduct a mapping exercise to match content to resource folders based on patient profiles and areas of interest
- Adhere to Alliance editorial standards and practices, and integrate those standards into both edited and new content creation.
- Collaborate across teams including patient and family support, marketing, and medical affairs staff members.
- Excellent written and communication skills, including copywriting, editing, SEO, and writing for the web.
- Plain language and health literacy expertise.
- Experience with writing about treatment information, working understanding of cancer treatments preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
