The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is a national nonprofit organization committed to ending colorectal cancer within our lifetime. We help patients, families, survivors, and caregivers navigate diagnosis and treatment options, connect them with those who can share experiences and knowledge, and identify resources to meet their needs. We partner with healthcare professionals and social influencers to raise awareness of preventative screening, and we collaborate with researchers to better understand the disease and fund critical research. The Patient & Family Support Clinical Navigator will be a member of the Patient & Family Support Team within the Care Department.
Goals and responsibilities the successful applicant will need to achieve include:
- Serving with a team of navigators to respond to phone and electronic inquiries received from patients and caregivers affected by colorectal cancer and offer individualized and accurate disease treatment and coping information.
- Successfully navigate patients and families to clinical trials through helpline calls and direct referrals. Create and edit clinical trial documents and education for the Alliance website and BlueHQ.
- Partner with Sr. Director in ongoing relationship and program development with clinical trial and biomarker industry partnerships
- Ensure education and access to clinical trials and biomarker testing. Provide focused clinical assessment to ensure patients have access to proper care and clinical trial.
- Help lower patient distress by supporting coordination of the care for patients from screening through the entire cancer care continuum.
- Facilitate timely access to care and provide referrals to financial and psychosocial resources within and outside of the Alliance. Facilitate communication between patients, family/caregivers, and the healthcare team.
- Disseminate, distribute, and train all Alliance staff and navigators on current and future trials and biomarker information. Educate patients, caregivers, and community on CRC focused care.
- Improve patient outcomes through education and reduction of barriers to care. Help patients identify financial and other support resources. Provide cancer program and community resources.
- Electronically document the patient or caregiver’s demographic information, needs, and information/resources provided.
- Assist in the maintenance of the colorectal cancer resource directory, suggested reading list and contributes to the monitoring of online patient forums.
- Keep current and curious on colorectal cancer risk factors, diagnoses, treatments, and coping strategies.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- BSN, RN, LPN
- OCN Certification preferred
- Bilingual Spanish preferred
- 2-4 years in oncology, public health, clinical trials coordinator, research coordinator, health care, inpatient or outpatient nursing oncology preferred
