We're thrilled to have our new Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications Brian Oliver join the Colon Cancer Alliance and are excited to have him on board to help further our mission. Learn about Brian and help us welcome him to the family!
What excites you most about joining the Colon Cancer Alliance?
I am sure it's been said many times before, but it excites me most to have a job that has the ability to save someone's life. If the work I do encourages one person to get screened earlier and remove a polyp before it becomes cancerous, that is pretty impactful. While meeting other staff members in my interview, I felt like I could make a meaningful difference with the Colon Cancer Alliance.
What is your favorite aspect of marketing and communication?
It's fun! It requires equal amounts of left brain strategy/logic and right brain creativity, and you very rarely have the same day twice.
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be and what would you order?
I would have lunch with the Dalai Lama, because I'm pretty sure I could use all the advice on calmness, peace and zen that I can get, so why not ask the person that has been doing it since 1391. To eat, probably something vegetarian and then eat a steak for dinner!
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
Work will always be work, but my two children will only be children for a limited amount of time. Take the time to be there for every minute I can.
What is one thing you have always wanted to do but never have?
I have always wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
