Run VMC Team Captain George Papachristos, from Vienna, Virginia, has been running in the DC Scope It Out 5K every year since completing treatment for colorectal cancer in the fall of 2005.  As a survivor, this race has extra special meaning for him--honoring all those who have been impacted by this disease. He uses this event to promote awareness and hope.

So what does the "VMC" in "Run VMC" stand for?  The Vienna Men's Club! A couple of years ago, a group of neighborhood dads founded the VMC as a fun way to gather and rally for local events and happy hours.  They have since expanded across Vienna and even have a few honorary out-of-state members. George says, “We are Run VMC because it’s like that…and that’s the way it is.”

With more than three weeks to go until race day, Run VMC has already surpassed its goal of raising $1,000!  The team continues to grow in numbers, both in participants and supporters.  Run VMC is an energetic team who is active and social in the community, which helps them spread the word about the Scope It Out. George says he is lucky to have a community around him that really cares and is willing to run or donate.

Want to support this wonder team? Join them at their St. Patrick's Day bar crawl in Vienna as they rally community support and sponsors--you'l be able to recognize them by their Run VMC t-shirts.
