Today, the Colon Cancer Alliance joins 25 advocacy groups representing 16 million cancer patients and survivors in urging Congress to protect people with pre-existing conditions and vote no on the American Health Care Act (AHCA). As is, the legislation still stands to leave approximately 24 million Americans without health insurance, with recent amendments "technically" guaranteeing access to health insurance to patients with pre-existing conditions, but allowing states to opt out of covering essential health benefits, and from the mandate that prevents insurers to charge them more. These changes will effectively price out patients with serious illnesses like colon cancer, denying our community vital access to healthcare. The AHCA looks to state-run "high risk" pools, something that was tried and largely failed prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. Please call your Congressional Representative an let them know they need to revise the AHCA to protect people with medical conditions like colon cancer. We continue to ask you to join with us in making sure that our patient and survivor community has access to lifesaving healthcare insuranceSpeak Up, Speak Out!
