Where can you find a man in Santa boxers, a dog in undies and Batman all running down the street? At the Nashville Undy 5000, of course.
Underwear-themed outfits filled the streets of Walk of Fame Park on August 17th as more than 400 colon cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates participated in Music City’s 2nd annual Undy 5000 5K Walk/Run.

We’re thrilled to announce: This year’s event raised more than $40,000! While half of all proceeds will bolster the Colon Cancer Alliance’s national prevention, research and patient support initiatives, the other half will support the Blue Note Fund, a financial assistance program giving one-time grants to colon cancer patients in need of a little extra help. This truly makes this event a gift that keeps on giving.
“To date, the Blue Note Fund has helped more than 1,000 colon cancer patients in need,” said Todd Setter, National Director of the Undy 5000 series. “With Saturday’s success, we will be able to assist even more people. That’s what the Undy 5000 is all about – drawing attention, increasing screening rates, providing support and hope, and, ultimately, saving lives.”
The Blue Note Fund helps support patients like Gloria Acevedo, who was only 35 when she received a stage III metastatic colon cancer diagnosis. As an otherwise healthy woman, Gloria never expected her CT scan to lead to exploratory surgery and then the discovery of a 3 cm malignant tumor. Upon her receiving her Blue Note Fund Award, Gloria wrote us to express her gratitude.

“There are not sufficient words to thank all the donors who bless us patients in more than one way. It’s hard enough to go through the diagnosis, surgery, chemo and also wonder how you’ll pay bills, buy home cleaning products, provide for your kids’ needs. Receiving this blessing in the mail was so wonderful; my sister and I cried of joy and it just lifted our spirits to see that there are people who care for others.”
Since receiving her award, Gloria says she has been inspired to help others with her words of hope, and one day she hopes to be able to help others financially, too.
