Colorectal cancer takes patients and families on a journey of steep ups and downs. In challenging times, we often look to our professional care teams for support and, sometimes, the will to carry on — despite the fear, pain, and sleepless nights that beset many who encounter this disease.

We can take for granted the calming reassurance provided by a medical provider, the priceless guidance given by a social worker, or the fog-clearing wisdom shared by a therapist. Healthcare professionals — in ways small and large — are heroes in the battle against colorectal cancer, and it’s time we recognize them as such.

That’s why the local organizers of the Blue Hope Bash Denver, including myself, have created the Colorado Colorectal Cancer Hero Award. The award recognizes and celebrates the colorectal cancer heroes among us who make a difference in the lives of patients and families.

We are seeking nominations for colorectal cancer heroes in Colorado through October 5. The nominees and award recipients will be honored at the Blue Hope Bash Denver on October 15 at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum.

Nominating Your Colorado CRC Hero

Anyone can make a nomination. We’re looking for outstanding physicians, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and therapists

To nominate your Colorado colorectal cancer hero, submit a statement (250 words or fewer) with your story and how your nominee made a difference in your journey to ColoradoHero@ccalliance.org. Optionally, you can attach up to three photographs. Nominations will close October 5.

As the wife of a colorectal cancer patient who passed, I can attest to the healing power of these selfless, dedicated professionals. The opportunity to highlight their service at the Denver Bash is a great honor, and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating their commitment to patients and family by nominating your hero today.
