About Me:
When my mom was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in March of 2005, I went online to find anything I could to try and help her. There are so many resources- it is almost overwhelming! I learned a lot about colon cancer during this time. However, I also found out that many people don't know when they need to be screened or even what the symptoms are of colon cancer. Looking back, my mom had the classic symptoms and none of the many doctors she was seeing mentioned even having a colonoscopy until a couple of weeks before she ended up in the hospital. During that hospital stay she had surgery and was ultimately diagnosed. I want to bring awareness of this terrible disease. People need to be asking questions and insist on more tests if they know something is wrong. If one person could be saved and one family not to have to go through the nightmare our family is still going through it is worth it! - Melissa Roe, Coordinator of Voices of Eastern Oregon
