About Me:
When I lived in Maui I worked with the American Cancer Society to formulate a Holistic/Alternative Healing Database and Education Center. I also worked directly with cancer patients who suffered from the pain that recovery deals with. My specialty was doing complimentary therapy treatments with them to relieve some of the pain.

Once I moved to North Carolina I began to do research to find out about what was offered to our community; forms of support groups, forms of education, places to come and pick up information and what type of fundraising our community was doing. I found out that ACS was doing Relay for Life and the Breast Cancer area was doing well with their representation. All areas of support are available at the hospital, "First Health". As I researched more I found that Colon Cancer didn't have any representation in this county and Colon Cancer awareness need to be active and I am more than willing to spread the word. My family lost many close friends to many forms of cancer and my grandmother is a Breast Cancer survivor. So I said I need to help get this going and help my community know more about it. What a better month to start a chapter than Colon Cancer Awareness Month! - Michelle Polakof, Coordinator of Voices of Moore County
