About Me:
Following his diagnosis of stage IV colorectal cancer in August 2003 and subsequent radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, more chemo, more surgery and now more chemo, Gordon has been active in promoting cancer awareness and cancer research efforts. He works individually with newly diagnosed patients in the Greensboro area, and with Golfers Against Cancer, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to raising funds for cutting-edge cancer research. Gordon has also written an informative flier for newly diagnosed patients, based on his experience, that is now being used at Cone Regional Cancer Center in Greensboro and Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center in Durham.
He became a member of CCA and CCA's "buddy program", and has tried to get additional support groups going for CRC here in Greensboro at the cancer center, but to no avail - short staffing, or whatever - so he's been going one-on-one with newly diagnosed patients who have heard of my story through word-of-mouth and have contacted me. You'd be surprised how many people are practically begging for attention and support!! His support group at Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center has been very involved, and fills the gap from not having a group in his hometown. Gordon plans for the Voices chapter to provide the guidance and support that has previously been missing in his area - Gordon Cole, Coordinator of Voices of Greensboro/Triad
