About Me:
I have volunteered to be the Voices of Central Valley chapter coordinator because I am a colon cancer survivor. I was diagnosed on June 9, 2006 and had surgery on June 15, 2006
I returned to work the beginning of September, 2006.
I want to raise the level of awareness in the Central Valley by starting a dialogue about the "silent killer" that no one is really comfortable talking about.
I want to bring a sense of humor and camaraderie to the “hush hush” subject of colon cancer. I want to bring colon cancer out of the closet and into the bright light through awareness and one-on-one conversation. I want people younger than 50 to be able to have the colonoscopy exam and I want insurance companies to pay for it. I want medical doctors to be aware that colon cancer does not limit itself to patients over 50.
We need to care for one another by reminding each other about the tests we need to take care of our health, not only for our sakes but for the sake of those we love.
Voices chapters grow in number and strength by those that become part of the chapter. I want to start the Voices of Central Valley chapter as a caring place of learning, support and awareness for colon cancer survivors of this area, their family members and any other community members who are interested in promoting awareness of this very preventable disease and killer.
