2011 Phoenix Undy 5000

On a sunny Saturday morning, 1,313 people ran in their underwear in honor of and in memory of those who have been affected by colon cancer. The 4th Annual Phoenix Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the State Capitol became the highest grossing Undy 5000 in the history of the event, raising just over $150,000!

As with every Undy 5000, colon cancer survivors were honored and recognized, and with 68 survivors at the event, there was definitely something to celebrate. “Our amazing colon cancer survivors all had such great attitudes,” said Todd Setter, National Undy 5000 Event Director. “They were so inspiring.”

More than 80 teams were created for the event, and four teams raised over $2,000 each, with the top fundraising team breaking $4,000. Many teams were created by local organizations and businesses, and the Mayo Clinic Arizona Team had almost 75 participants, making it one of the biggest teams in Undy 5000 history.

A portion of the proceeds remain behind to support the Fit at Fifty HealthCheck Program of the Arizona Department of Health Services, and some of the funds are also left behind to the CCA Chapter of Central Arizona to help with colon cancer screening programs in the community.
