Dara Torres is a nine-time Olympic medalist and the first American to swim in four Olympics, including the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000 summer games. In 1982, she broke her first world record in the 50-meter freestyle, and is now the American record holder in that event.

When her father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) in January 2001, Torres became actively involved in his education and treatment. She is committed to raising awareness about CRC and the critical role of family, friends and caregivers in helping patients cope with the disease. Torres is the official spokesperson for Roots of Support in CRC, an educational initiative launched in May 2004 by the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA). The program is designed to encourage CRC patients and their loved ones to take an active role in building a network of support.

In addition to her swimming accomplishments, Torres is a successful television commentator and print model. An NBC-TV correspondent for the upcoming 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, Torres is currently a feature reporter for “PGA Tour Sunday” on USA Network and a freelance host for E! Television.

Her television background includes time spent as the feature correspondent for “Good Morning America.” She is the host and spokesperson for a series of best-selling workout videos, and is the first athlete to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.
