The American Cancer Society, with offices nationwide, has a variety of services for cancer patients and their families and friends. Through the Ostomy Rehabilitation Program, Look Good...Feel Better, What About Me? and I Can Cope, they provide direct assistance to patients and their families, who need help with the physical and emotional problems they face. Also available are a variety of pamphlets, brochures and booklets providing information. Materials are available in Spanish and Chinese in addition to English.

The National Institutes of Health Cancer Information Service/PDQ provides a nationwide telephone service with specially trained personnel who can provide up-to-date, understandable information about cancer. Their offices serve specific geographic areas and can provide information about services available in each area. They offer a wide variety of free publications, many in both Spanish and English, including What You Need to Know about Cancer of the Colon and Rectum. They can also provide a list of cancer centers and information about clinical trials.

Genentech recently launched a new website, www.RightTestRightTime.org, that helps explain what biomarkers and diagnostic tests are and what patients, whether they are newly diagnosed or have had a recurrence, should ask their healthcare team.
