Dallas Undy 5000 Draws Record Crowd and Donations
Dallas, TX (November 2, 2011) – Some dressed in costumes, and others dressed in underwear and their bare minimums. Either way, nearly 800 people participated in the 4th Annual Dallas Undy 5000 on October 29 in honor of and in memory of those who have been directly affected by colon cancer. The event raised about $120,000 – the highest recorded total for a Dallas Undy – to help support colon cancer screening programs of Mary Crowley Cancer Research Centers, as well as to fund national and local patient support and educational programs of the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA).
“We had an amazing group out here today,” said Jasmine Greenamyer, Chief Operating Officer of the CCA. “Tons of volunteers, amazing participants and some inspirational colon cancer survivors just made this event one of the best I’ve been to.”
More than 37 colon cancer survivors stood strong together on stage as the crowd cheered them on, and Jeff Marker, a 4-year survivor, gave a short speech on his personal story. Marker apologized for letting his emotions show when talking about how easy it is to get screened and how if it wasn’t for his wife, Lana, taking on the “nag” factor, he’s not sure he would have been there to tell his story.
Vivian Ta, Miss Texas United America 2011, also hosted the first-ever Dallas-based, Dulcolax® “Parade of Undies” Fashion Show. Five individuals and five teams strutted their stuff on the “blue carpet” and based on an applause test, one winner was crowned in each category.
The Undy 5000 series, created by the CCA in 2008, is held in cities across the nation, and is designed to promote awareness and educate the public about colon cancer.
Boehringer Ingelheim, the maker of Dulcolax®,* is the proud presenting sponsor of the 2011 Undy 5000 races. As the #1 doctor-recommended stimulant for constipation relief, Dulcolax®* reminds everyone over the age of 50 or with a family history of colon cancer that a colonoscopy can save lives.
