The Colon Cancer Alliance Rings In National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month During Nasdaq Closing Bell Ceremony
New York, NY (March 6, 2012) – For the 3rd consecutive year, the Colon Cancer Alliance will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell to celebrate March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The NASDAQ Closing Bell ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 4:00 p.m. at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York’s Times Square. Michael Zahaby, Treasurer and Board Member of the Colon Cancer Alliance, will preside over the Bell ceremony and will be joined by CCA staff, board members and supporters.
“We are thrilled that the Colon Cancer Alliance has once again been invited by NASDAQ to ring the Closing Bell during the month of March to raise awareness about this disease,” said Andrew Spiegel, CEO of the Colon Cancer Alliance. “By giving more attention to colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States, we can help people understand the risk factors associated with this disease and how a simple screening can mean the difference between life and death.”
The Colon Cancer Alliance raises awareness of colon cancer through a variety of support, education and awareness programs including the Undy 5000 5K run series that takes place in cities throughout the United States and nationally recognized Dress in Blue Day, which takes place on the first Friday of every March.
“Following the ringing of the bell, the Colon Cancer Alliance will air its public service announcement, Screen My Colon: Know Your Family History, on the NASDAQ MarketSite Tower in Times Square,” stated Spiegel. “This animated PSA delivers our message about the importance of knowing your family history and talking with your doctor about screening before turning 50 years of age if you have a family history of the disease.”
The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. is the world’s largest exchange company. It delivers trading, exchange technology and public company services across six continents, with over 3,600 listed companies.
A live webcast of the NASDAQ Closing Bell will be available at: http://social.nasdaqomx.com.
