Colon Cancer Alliance to Ring in Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month by Ringing the NASDAQ Closing Bell

CCA to Launch Nationwide "Screen My Colon!"^TM Public Service Announcement Following Ceremony

New York, NY (February 28, 2011) – The Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) will kick off Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month by ringing the NASDAQ closing bell on Tuesday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m. at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York’s Times Square.  Andrew Spiegel, CEO of the Colon Cancer Alliance, will preside over the NASDAQ closing bell ceremony and will be joined by CCA staff, board members and supporters.

“This is the second year in a row that the Colon Cancer Alliance has been invited by NASDAQ to ring the closing bell, helping us raise awareness of colon cancer, which affects more than 142,000 Americans annually,” Spiegel said.  “We appreciate NASDAQ’s willingness to increase attention to a disease that is often preventable through a simple screening and very treatable if caught early.”

The Colon Cancer Alliance raises awareness of colon cancer through a variety of support, education and awareness programs including the Undy 5000 5k run series that takes place in cities throughout the United States and nationally recognized Dress in Blue Day, which takes place on the first Friday of every March.

“Following the ringing of the bell, the Colon Cancer Alliance will launch its 2011 public service announcement, Screen My Colon!^TM: Know Your Family History, on the NASDAQ Tower in Times Square,” stated Spiegel.  “Our new animated PSA educates people about the importance of knowing their family history, and encourages being screened before they turn 50 years of age if they have a family history of the disease.”
