Timothy J. Turnham Named Chief Executive Officer
30 Years of Experience

Washington, DC - February 12, 2007 - The Colon Cancer Alliance, the largest national, nonprofit colorectal cancer patient advocacy organization, has named Dr. Timothy J. Turnham as chief executive officer.

Dr. Turnham brings over 30 years of experience, in fundraising, communication, research and nonprofit management skills, to the organization.  Most recently Dr. Turnham served as the senior development officer focusing on fundraising for the United Cerebral Palsy Association, one of the oldest nonprofits in the country.  Prior to that, Dr. Turnham was the senior development officer for the Whitman-Walker Clinic the largest community-based AIDS service organization in the United States.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Tim Turnham lead our organization,” said Kevin Lewis, Chairman of the Board of Directors.  “Dr. Turnham’s knowledge and experience in the nonprofit sector will help us to provide the leadership necessary to minimize the suffering from colorectal cancer.”

Under Dr. Turnham’s leadership, the Colon Cancer Alliance will start a targeted focus on treatment and education awareness.  “Colorectal Cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States but a vast majority of cases could have been prevented with early detection. I am very pleased to be part of an organization that is addressing this disease,” states Dr. Turnham.

Turnham holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee, a Masters of Divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Turnham will be based out of the Colon Cancer Alliance’s Washington, D.C. office.
