Racing for Ron
On July 31st, 2011, Amelia DeCesare competed in the Crabman Sprint Triathlon in honor of her brother-in-law, Ron Amore (the husband of Amelia’s sister, Alicia). Ron was diagnosed in November 2010 with stage III colon cancer at the young age of 27.
Amelia began raising money in an effort to spread the word about colon cancer education and the importance of screenings and early detection. Ron also jumped in to help with the cause and raised funds on his own behalf.
The Crabman Sprint Triathalon included a .25 mile swim, a 10 mile bike ride, and a 3.2 mile run through a scenic ocean front course. It took place in Matunuck, RI on July 31st, 2011. Ron, Alicia, and many family and friends came out to support the race!
Through donations from 75 contributors, they raised more than $3,200 to help support the CCA programs that have helped Ron through colon cancer. He has now finished chemotherapy and is currently cancer free!
