Dan’s Alpine Colon Climb
When Dan decided to climb Mt. Rainier near Seattle to support the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA), his wish was to simply raise awareness about colon cancer.
Although neither he nor his family had been directly affected, Dan had personally experienced how the disease had the potential to hurt individual lives and families. He knew several people who had passed away from colon cancer or were currently battling the disease.
In addition, Dan was battling ulcerative colitis, which put him at a greater risk of developing colon cancer.
Dan chose to raise awareness by doing something completely new and daring: climbing a 14,411 foot strato-volcano. On June 23, 2012, Dan and eight other climbers set out with three guides towards Mount Rainier’s summit. Thanks to Rainier Mountaineering Inc., a Washington-state based climbing company that has helped climbers safely reached Mt. Rainier’s summit for over 40 years, Dan and the others reached the summit June 27th, marking Dan’s successful first climb as a mountaineer!
Congratulations to Dan and his group for reaching the summit and for surpassing his fundraising goal of $1,441.10 (the altitude of Mt. Rainier). His total stands at $2,264.10—and counting! Check out Dan’s fundraising page. The Colon Cancer Alliance would like to thank Rainier Mountaineering Inc. for helping Dan and his fellow climbers ascend and descend safely.
