Biking For Booties: Charlton Walk and Ride for Colon Cancer
Tracy and Chip Powers were like any other couple living in suburban Charlton, Massachusetts. But when Chip was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, their whole world was turned upside down. In their struggle to help Chip regain his health, they realized that through their story, they could be the conversation-starter to help get people screened; they hoped their voice would save people from being dealt the same devastating diagnosis they were given. And with that idea, The Charlton Walk and Ride for Colon Cancer was born.
After the inaugural event in 2012, Tracy and Chip looked to expand even further. On May 5th, 2013, the 2nd Annual Charlton Walk and Ride for Colon Cancer happened at Charlton Middle School. The event had an amazing turnout with not only walkers/riders, but included bicyclists, motorcyclists and an antique car show! Combined with last year’s total, the Charlton Walk and Ride for Colon Cancer has raised more than $12,500 to help the Colon Cancer Alliance knock colon cancer out of the top 3 cancer killers.
Congratulations to Tracy, Chip, and all those who came out to support this year’s event – we can’t wait to see what next year’s event has in store! If you have a great idea for a fundraiser, please contact Alison Ornitz at (202) 628-0123 ext. 109
