Treatment Advances - Panel discussion which includes the following topics:
- Advances in Oncology: Highlighting current options for colorectal cancer oncology treatment and what is on the horizon including an overview of existing clinical trials and why they are important options.
- Advances in Minimally Invasive Therapy: Highlighting advances in interventional therapy or minimally invasive treatments for colon cancer such as chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, sir-spheres and cryoablation.
- Advances in Surgical Treatment: Updates on new surgical therapies for colorectal cancer including management of the primary tumor and metastatic disease. Topics covered will include the role of laparoscopic surgery, new techniques for rectal cancer surgery, advances in liver and lung resection and ablative techniques for metastases.
Meet the Experts: This informal session is a great opportunity for attendees to interact with the doctors participating in the Treatment Advances sessions.
Symptom Management – Hope on the Horizon: Improving colorectal cancer care by addressing some of the newest advances in the understanding and management of disease and treatment related symptoms.
Breakouts - Breakout sessions where participants can choose from one of the following forums:
- Survivor’s Forum: Breakout session will be a guided forum where survivors can ask questions of their peers, generating discussions among the audience. Through the exchange of ideas and information in a supportive and empowering atmosphere, participants can find hope by strengthening their knowledge and realizing they are not alone.
- Caregiver’s Forum: Breakout session will be a guided forum where caregivers can ask questions of their peers, generating discussions among the audience. Through the exchange of ideas and information in a supportive and empowering atmosphere, participants can find hope by strengthening their knowledge and realizing they are not alone.
Cancer Survivorship, Hope and Quality of Life: Promoting a sense of hope and improved quality of life for those dealing with a cancer diagnosis by learning how to live with cancer. Both survivors and caregivers will learn about critical strategies to better manage the complex problems associated with a cancer diagnosis. In addition, attendees will breakout into roundtable discussions to discuss the following topics: Parenting through Cancer, Pregnancy and Fertility after a Cancer Diagnosis, Sexuality and Body Image, Life with an Ostomy, Managing Metastatic Disease and Life after Cancer Treatment.
Nutrition and Cancer: Good nutrition is important to everyone, particularly cancer patients. Treatment of colorectal cancer can cause conditions that interfere with normal eating and the desire to eat. This session will provide suggestions for incorporating nutrition before, during and after cancer treatment.
Mind, Body and Spirit - Using Meditation to Calm the Mind, Heal the Body and Renew the Spirit: This session will explore the concept of Mindfulness Meditation, a strategy to help nurture the mind and strengthen immune responsiveness, increasing your ability to fight disease while generating life-affirming attitudes and inner peace. Participants will be introduced to the healing aspects of a meditative practice and will be given the opportunity to enhance their own health and well-being by experiencing a guided meditation.
