Video: Screening for Colorectal Cancer

Produced by American Digestive Health Foundation

Reviewed by Carolyn Beeker, PhD.

Screening For Colorectal Cancer is an eight-minute videotape produced by the American Digestive Health Foundation (ADHF).

The video profiles several people who have been screened for colorectal cancer (CRC), with a variety of results. Among them:

  • An African-American woman urged by her daughter to get screened. Her results showed that she did not have polyps or colorectal cancer.
  • A white man turning 50 whose doctor recommended screening. He was screened using colonoscopy, during which a polyp was found and removed.
  • A white man around 70 years old. He learned through screening that he had colon cancer. He was successfully treated, because the cancer was found at an early stage.

Medical experts present clear, compelling information about the value of screening for colorectal cancer, as well as who should be screened, and when.

The video stresses the importance of removing polyps to prevent colorectal cancer. It also demonstrates that when colorectal cancer is found and treated early, survival rates are much higher.

Viewers are encouraged to discuss screening for colorectal cancer with their doctors. For information on acquiring Screening for Colorectal Cancer contact the ADHF at 1-800-668-5237.
